Abstract

This research article investigates the impact of family environment and peer relationships on the speaking skills of English as a Second Language (ESL) learners at the Bachelor of Studies (BS) level. Speaking is one of the most challenging language skills for ESL learners, particularly in contexts where exposure to English outside the classroom is limited. The study aims to explore how parentaldioor family support and peer interaction influence learners’ confidence, fluency, and willingness to speak English. A quantitative research design was adopted, and data were collected from 300 BS-level students through a structured questionnaire. The findings indicate that a supportive family environment plays a vital role in encouraging learners to practice English, while positive peer relationships significantly enhance speaking confidence and reduce anxiety. The study concludes that both family and peer environments are crucial social factors that contribute to the development of speaking skills among ESL learners at the undergraduate level.
